"Small things done consistently in strategic places make change happen."
-Cile Chavez
At the Colchester School Council Annual General Meeting on May 10th, we discussed a wide range of interesting topics. We were pleased to learn that, unlike other schools in Elk Island Public Schools Division, Colchester School will not lose any teaching staff due to budget cuts. Whew!
As part of the School Administration Report, staff survey results were presented. Feedback was shared regarding elements within the school that the staff felt were going well, elements that needed support to grow, and elements that should no longer be pursued. This open and honest sharing of feedback provided the Council an opportunity to see how our School Staff are working for the best interests of our students and our school. The team approach to evaluating that which occurs within the walls of our school is impressive and will ultimately make our school stronger.
At the meeting, parents also expressed their appreciation for the Spring Art Show and Tea and their amazement over the fantastic art. Thank you to those who volunteered to make this event a success and thank you to all the students who shared their talent with us. Well done!
We are excited to report that several individuals agreed to serve in a variety of roles next year:
- 1. Chair - Cheryl Przybilla.
- 2. Vice Chair - Gabe Chemello
- 3. Treasurer - Ted Ostrosser
- 4. Casino Chairperson - Ken Kruhlak
- 5. Hot Lunch / Crazy Bread Coordinators - Rhonda Schwartz, Stacy Hipkin
- 6. Art Card Project Coordinator- Stacy Hipkin
We are still seeking one individual to assume the role of Secretary and one individual to assist with the Art Card Project. This will be added to the September agenda. If you are interested in joining our team, and would like more information, please drop by the school office to chat with either Rhonda Gibson or Bill Suter.
Once again, a huge 'THANK YOU' goes out to those who have been part of the School Council team. You work has been inspiring and your spirit contagious.
Our next meeting is scheduled for September 20th. We are eagerly anticipating the planning of another outstanding year of activities and events that will continue to build community and support our school. Please join us in our planning.
Wishing you a wonderful summer of relaxation and recreation,
Cheryl Przybilla
